Summary
Description: This series (1 sleeve) consists of letters an V-mails from William Bennett to his family in Los Altos and San Francisco, California. Bennett begins the year traveling to Northern France after being temporarily assigned to the 474th Infantry Regiment. He is eventually assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. By April, Bennett is in Germany and eventually travels to Austria, Paris, and London. In his letters, Bennett writes about not being allowed to talk to German civilians, the Pacific war being the most difficult one, German fanatic resistance, rooting out Nazis in hiding, finding stolen art of Hermann Goering, visiting London and Paris, seeing General Patton, and leaving for the United States.;Personal correspondence from the service of Sergeant William Bennett who was assigned to the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in the Pacific, Mediterranean, and European Theater of Operations.
