Biographical / Historical Note
Mary Apoline Comfort (née Fritz) attended Pomona College in California from 1916 to 1920. From 1935 to 1936, Comfort was on the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter Executive Committee. She married Charles Haines Comfort prior to 1955.

Photograph album with photographs likely compiled by Mary Apolline Comfort of the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter chiefly in California, but also in Nevada, 1931-1940. Depicted are identified members of the chapter camping, hiking, or skiing at “North Baldy” (Mount San Antonio), Big Bear, Mollet Island, Deep Canyon in Coachella Valley, Hot Springs Creek, Borego Palm Canyon, Bear Heaven, Lake Chatsworth, Mount San Jacinto, Mount Islip, Toro Peak, the Santa Monica Mountains, Big Pines, Red Rock Canyon, Coyote Canyon, Calico Mountains, Palisades Glacier, and other locations. Included are photographs of parties, get-togethers, or trips at Muir Lodge, Mount Lowe, Manhattan Beach, Santa Catalina Island, Laguna Beach, San Francisco, Boulder Dam (now known as the Hoover Dam), Lake Tahoe, and other locations.
