Composition of deck: 52 [A, K, Q, J, 10-2].
Aces: Indicated by "I" with "&ct" at foot of caption.
CourtCards: Kings, Queens, Jacks with rank in white band at top; Jack of Spades with horizontal lines on center three windows.
Pip cards: Numbered X-II; 2 of Spades with vertical and horizontal lines on end of coffin.
Several variants of the Popish Plot pack exist. The cards are mounted in a book with the following printed title page: [ornament] / A pack of English Playing Cards / PUBLISHED ABOUT 1680. / Complete / Each Card contains a subject, neatly engraved, either / relating to the pretended Popish plot of 1678, or / the Trial and Punishment of the Conspirators, / With a brief explanation at the foot. / Described in "Chatto on Playing Cards," / fol. 154-5 / Also / The Original Wrapper, / With Effigy of Henry VIII, / Bearing a Sixpenny Stamp. / Very Scarce.
