Issued as part of the several Albany issues of "The writings, of Thomas Paine" (Evans 24658, Evans 27466, Bristol B8098, Bristol B8784, and an unrecorded issue). Evidently not issued separately.
Dedicated to George Washington.
Two states noted. In the first, [A] is a gathering of 8 leaves. In the second, the first 8 leaves are imposed as two gatherings, the first unsigned, the second signed B (as is the third gathering). The title page has been entirely reset, with the words "--where printing is performed ..." dropped from the imprint. The remainder of the gathering has also been reset, at least in part, and an excerpt "From the first American edition" has been moved from [A]1 verso to [A]2 recto.
Signatures: [A]⁸ B-O⁴ P² (or [A]⁴ B⁴ ²B⁴ C-O⁴ P²).
