Biographical / Historical Note
John Ellis Wool (1784-1869) was an officer in the United States Army during the War of 1812, Mexican-American War, and the American Civil War.
Summary
Autograph orders, signed, from John Ellis Wool calling for Mexican municipal officials to organize police forces at American military posts in Mexico, 1847 December 17. Wool also calls for the punishment of merchants of all nationalities paying tribute to "Guerrilla parties" for the safe transportation of goods to Mexican ports. The orders hold municipal officials financially responsible for damage by guerilla raids against American supply trains.
