Biographical / Historical Note
William Edgar Prince (1815-1892) of Boston, Massachusetts, enlisted with the United States Army 1st Infantry Regiment in 1838. During the American Civil War, Prince was a major with United States Army 3rd Infantry Regiment in Kansas. He retired in 1864.

Circa 290 military telegrams sent via the Missouri and Western Telegraph Company and addressed chiefly to Major William Edgar Prince at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, 1861 February 21-1862 April 14. Telegrams document military operations in Kansas, Missouri, and along the Santa Fe Trail during the American Civil War.
