Summary
Photograph album containing 22 black and white aerial photographs taken in Montgomery, Alabama during the third Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March. The photographs were taken by the 11th Air Assault Division, and the prints were prepared by the 11th Air Assault Division's Imagery Interpretation Section within the 11th Military Intelligence Detachment at Fort Benning, Georgia. The photographs are marked and labeled to show details in the images. The images document the last stage of the march from the City of St. Jude campus to the Alabama State Capitol Building. The first section of the album depicts the marchers' campsite at City of St. Jude and the march route to the Capitol building; the second section shows sequential images of the march on March 25, 1965, along with the positions of civilian police, military police and the news media. One leaf of the album has a folded map of the city of Montgomery, with an attached transparent overlay showing the march route and locations depicted in the album's photographs. Accompanied by a presentation letter from Brigadier General John M. Wright, Assistant Division Commander at Fort Benning, Georgia, to Major General Carl C. Turner, Provost Marshal General, Department of the Army, Washington, D.C.
