Summary
Naples is Italy's third largest city by population. During the 15th century, it was dominated by several kingdoms of Spain that left their mark, such as many palaces with Baroque interiors. About fifteen Baroque churches, each one as sumptuous as the next, are concentrated in the historic center. One of the oldest basilicas in Naples is located in the San Lorenzo Maggiore complex. The Cathedral of Naples, known as Duomo San Gennaro, is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
