Raper James Waters (1856- ) founded R.J. Waters & Co., a general commercial photographic firm, in 1892 in San Francisco, California. Laurence B. Morton ( -1938) began Morton & Co., commercial photographers, by 1911. Morton-Waters & Co. was active in the 1920s and 1930s.

Circa 1920s order book compiled by Morton-Waters & Co. of photographs of San Francisco, California. Included are photographs of locations in California as well as photographs of maps and illustrations created or taken between 1837 and 1904. An index is present at the beginning of the volume; all photographs are numbered. Depicted primarily are identified street views. Multiple photographs are attributed to R.J. Waters & Co.
