Book has been bound in early 19th-century cloth to 20 cm tall and interleaved with 332 hand-numbered pages for manuscript notes. Interleaved pages are replete with manuscript notes (more substantial than the book itself) in an unidentified hand, approximately 1830; notes give a detailed explanation of the poem and are apparently written by a serious scholar of Milton's writings familiar with earlier editions of this title. Cataloger cannot determine whether author of annotations might be W. Knight, B. Alexander, or some other owner of the book. Accompanied by sheet, "Penny postage : subscriptions for testimonial to Rowland Hill, Esq.," dated Aberdeen, 10 May 1844 (1 leaf).
