Newspaper columnist and editor N. Don Wycliff was born in Liberty, Texas on December 17, 1946. Wycliff graduated from the University of Notre Dame. After working as a reporter in Texas, Ohio, Illinois and Washington, Wycliff joined the New York Times: Week in Review section. He addressed an array of issues as a board member of the Times editorial page from 1985 to 1990. Under Wycliff's leadership from 1991 to 2000, the Chicago Tribune editorial page won a Pulitzer Prize and two Distinguished Writing Awards from the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Beginning in 2000, Wycliff was a Tribune columnist and the newspaper's public editor. Influenced by his Catholic faith, he wrote on a variety of topics, advocating objectivity and justice. Wycliff served on advisory councils at Notre Dame and Northwestern universities and at the national associations of minority media executives and black journalists. He lived in Evanston, Illinois, with his wife, Catherine, and their sons.
