BEIN 1997 290 1: Following "The eigth edition," in White's ms., is written: By John Horne Tooke. There is an ms. note at the beginning of Chapter II--"This chapter was written by Dr. Price"--and another at the beginning of Chapter VIII--"This chapter, with the exception of the note on p. 111, was written by Dr. Price." Ownership inscription: T. Holt White, 1800. Table of contents written in ms. of T. Holt White and signed by him, dated 1802. Quoted note in unidentified ms.: "'It was a favourite axiom of the celebrated John Horne Tooke that the cream of the literature of every language was to be found in its dramatic poetry.' The Retrospective Review, vol. 9, p. 200." Two obituaries for John Horne Tooke, cut from contemporary periodicals, tipped in on blank pages at front of book. No. 3 of 6 titles bound together in a volume of pamphlets relating to Horne Tooke. A second volume (call number 1997 290 2) includes an additional 7 pamphlets bound together that relate to Horne Tooke.
