Summary
Title: "A film fantasy by Lotte Reiniger of the adventures of Papageno the jolly birdcatcher from The Magic Flute, incorporating original music by Mozart". Papagino returns to his treehouse after a days bird-catching. The birds which live around him on the tree turn into miniature women, but when he tries to grasp them, they transform back to birds again. One day, an ostrich arrives with a beautiful young woman on its back. Papageno falls in love with her but an evil snake chases her away. The snake attempts to kill Papageno, but the birds rescue him, strangling the snake with a piece of rope. Papageno pines away without the young woman and attempts to hang himself from a tree. The birds come once again to his rescue. When finally the young woman and the ostrich arrive back, the couple are re-united. The birds make an offering of a series of eggs from which are hatched the children of Papageno and his beloved.
