Chuahla Female Seminary was a school for girls near Doaksville and Fort Towson in Oklahoma established by the Choctaw Nation in 1842. Presbyterian missionary Cyrus Kingsbury (1786-1870) oversaw the school.
Summary
1846 manuscript copy of an 1845 Choctaw Nation resolution thanking Josiah Simpson, a United States Army surgeon from nearby Fort Towson, for taking care of sick students at Chuahla Female Seminary. The signatures of Sampson Folsom, Robert Kincaid, and Lewis Battiest certify that it is an official copy. On the verso is a manuscript letter to Cyrus Kingsbury from Daniel Folsom, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Choctaw Nation, concerning Kingsbury's request for a copy of the resolution. Accompanied by two manuscript letters from Kingsbury to Simpson, enclosing the copy of the resolution, thanking Simpson, and sharing news from Fort Towson, 1846.
