Antonio Bonocore is a legal practitioner who works - without a contract and for 300 euros a month - as assistant to Professor Salvatore "Toti" Bellastella, a lawyer and professor of criminal law. For Bellastella Antonio does everything, including shopping and preparing gourmet meals, rushing every day from the Roman countryside to the center of the capital after two hours of public transport. But his polyvalent zeal is not enough: to make him make the leap in quality, Bellastella proposes to the young practitioner the personal sacrifice of marrying Isabel, the Argentine lover of the lawyer, and allowing her to acquire Italian citizenship. Antonio must therefore mediate between his conscience and the desire to assert himself in a world dominated by recommendations. Moreover, he ends up embroiled in a question concerning the Malaspina, belonging to the sacred united crown, and clients of Bellastella.
