Lord Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson Berners (1883-1950) was an English composer, author, and illustrator.
Summary
Collection of papers relating to the French translation of Lord Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson Berners's 1936 novel The Camel. It tells the story of a vicar's wife, possibly based on Penelope Chetwode, who rides a camel. Includes nine autograph letters, signed, to Berners's French publishing firm, Fernand Sorlot, expressing disappointment in Madeleine Boyd's French translation; three pencil illustrations, signed, by Berners that appeared in the English edition; two photographs of Berners's illustrations; a manuscript legal document between Boyd and Jean-Marc Campagne regarding legal rights for the translation; and a proof for the book jacket for the English edition, with manuscript annotations and corrections in French. Also includes two photographs of Berners, Chetwode, and Chetwode's horse, Moti, having tea.
