Nothing is known of the compiler of this commonplace book. The inside of the front board is inscribed "G. A. Farsyde Fylingdales nr Whitby Y[ks?] 1825 [altered to 1826]. These M.S. were found amongst the papers of my Uncle Watson Farsyde"

Contains 36 pieces of English verse, five being signed or initialled by Tempest; a few pieces of Latin verse; London sermons etc. from various sources; three extracts from speeches before parliament from 1628; an extract from Francis Bacon, "The advancement and proficience of learning", and one from Lewis Roberts, "The merchants map of commerce", 1638; business and legal forms of oath and other documents, apparently drawn up or copied by an apprentice to Rowland and George Wynne or Winne of London; recipes and receipts, and tables. A loose leaf of recipes is pasted onto f."267" [280]. References in the text point to the Company of Merchant Adventurers. Some Yorkshire names and wool trade references
