John Simpson (active 1817-1823) was originally from Kent, England. He inherited Bounty Hall and Tilston estate in Trelawny, Jamaica.
Summary
Manuscript indenture, signed, between John Simpson and Adam Cliff, Thomas Hartley, and Milham Hartley. Includes four leaves of legal documentation recording debts Simpson owed to Cliff and the Hartleys; and plans for Simpson to use Bounty Hall and Tilston estate as leverage. Also includes seven leaves listing the names, ages, heritage, and the mother's name of each enslaved man, woman, and child on Simpson's estates in 1817 and 1820.
