Biographical / Historical Note
Anthony Peek was the manager of a production of The Matchmaker at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 1955. The Matchmaker is a a play by Thornton Wilder, revised from his earlier play,The Merchant of Yonkers. After The Merchant of Yonkers closed after a handful of performances in 1938, Thornton Wilder rewrote the play and it opened at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on November 4, 1954.
Summary
The collection includes materials chiefly related to a Theatre Royal Haymarket production of The Matchmaker. The Haymarket Theatre is in London, England. An annotated prompt book is included. Also included is correspondence between Thornton Wilder and Anthony Peek as well as correspondence between other members of the production. Drawings for the stage construction and scenery inventories are also included in Box 2. The collection includes set photographs and photographs from the 1954 Berlin Cultural Festival of Thornton Wilder and other cast members. Also included are lists of scenery and props, actor's contracts, travel related documents including correspondence, schedules, and notes, programs for this production and other plays, and financial documents.
