Biographical / Historical Note
Thomas Fairfax (1612-1671), 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron, English politician, general, and Parliamentary commander-in-chief during the English Civil War.
Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (1693-1781), Scottish peer. He was the only resident peer in late colonial America and administered the Northern Neck Proprietary, a land grant encompassing all the lands bounded by the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers in colonial Virginia, in 1649. Fairfax inherited these lands by 1719.

Loose manuscript notes (42 leaves), unsigned and in an unidentified hand, possibly made circa 18th century pertaining to Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord and his lands in Virginia. Manuscript note on first leaf: “The person made the following imperfect notes submits them to the perusal of B Fairfax, solicitor in the appeal, without expecting they will be of much use to him.” (Box 2)
