Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960) was a Black American writer and anthropologist.

Printed form referred to in the text as the "Brother Joseph Code List," with the name of Sister "Zora Hurston" and her registration number "13" in manuscript by an unidentified hand. The form instructs customers not to mail or otherwise share the list. Items available for sale fall into the following categories: flowers, powders, incense, saint pictures, tapers, extracts, toilet preparations, oils and perfume oils (first class quality), spices, essences, seeds, colored wax candles (used in worship), sundry articles, burning incense, roots and herbs, seals, necklace for chlidren, waters, and leaves.
