Mary Anne Evans (1819-1880), English novelist and author known by the pseudonym George Eliot.
James Leslie Crees (1864-1938), English painter known by the pseudonym Paul Braddon.
Summary
Nine watercolors by Braddon depicting Evan's birthplace, the church where she was baptized, a school interior, her childhood home (Griff House), and places "immortalized" in literary works. Locations include Arbury Hall, the "South Farm" on the Arbury Hall estate, the All Saints' Church in the Chilvers Coton area of Nuneaton, and St. Nicolas Church of Nuneaton. Accompanied by one watercolor, initialed "A.K.A.," of an unidentified scene from Daniel Deronda.
