Unmounted and unframed.
This engraving is one of the earliest examples of engraved music. The music is displayed on two carrelle, or erasable slate tablets, on which composers of the era composed their music.
Version without text at base of engraving: "Coelicolum regi meritas depromite laudes namq[ue] pia dominum venerari laude decorum est : Psal. 147."
Summary
Representation of the Magnificat, with the Virgin Mary in the center surrounded by 6 angels. Two angels are holding slate tablets with the complete five-voice setting of Cornelis Verdonck's Magnificat (altus and bassus part on left tablet; superius and tenor canon. in diapason on right tablet); these two angels are singing from the parts, while the other 4 angels are playing their parts on musical instruments (viols, flute, cornetto).
