Summary
Monsieur Jourdain, a bourgeois parvenu, dreams of infiltrating the great world. To do so, he takes several initiatives: he refuses the marriage of his daughter Lucile to Cléonte, who has the disadvantage of not being a gentleman; takes lessons in music, dance, swordsmanship, and philosophy; and orders expensive clothes from his tailor. Cléonte, on his side, prepares a Machiavellian plan. He will make himself pass as the son of the Great Turk. Dazzled by the social position of this new suitor, Mr. Jourdain cannot refuse him the hand of his daughter. During a grand Turkish ceremony, the bourgeois will be raised to the rank of Mamamouchi.
