Diary kept by Robert Gale, captain's steward on board HMS RATTLESNAKE on the scientific surveying cruise to Australia and New Guinea begins with how Captain Stanley was given command of HMS RATTLESNAKE this lasts for three pages then mostly blank except for a few dates then begins again on 25 January 1850 until 02 February 1850. Includes drawings and decriptions of a school of black fish (killer whales).
