Summary
Log of the brig CATHERINE kept by Eben William Sage from 1 September-4 October 1809 while on a trading voyage from Middletown, Connecticut to Funchal, Madeira. The original destination was Tenerife, Canary Islands. Included is a harbour log. There are pen and ink sketches at the back of the volume. The brig was commanded by Loudon Bailey. Log of the ship THOMAS kept in narrative format by Eben William Sage from 1809-1810 (with gaps) returning on a trading voyage to New York from Madeira Island with a stop in the Azores. Includes a description of his time spent in the Azores. There are pen and ink sketches at the end of the volume. The ship was commanded by William McFarland. Log of the brig GANGES kept in narrative format by Eben William Sage from 1810-1811 (with gaps) while on a trading voyage from New London, Connecticut to New Orleans, Louisiana; Gibralta; Setubal, Portugal; and New York, N.Y. Entries include extensive descriptions of New Orleans, Gibraltar, and Setubal. There are pen and ink sketches of Havana, Cuba, Madeira Island, Graciosa, Pico, Faial, and St. Maria (Azores) at the end of the volume. The brig was commanded by Jonathan Read.
