Ed Arno (1916-2008) was an Austrian-born American cartoonist and illustrator.
Summary
Circa 900 pen and ink cartoons by Ed Arno intended for New Yorker magazine and other periodicals, circa 1960s-2000. Includes correspondence with editorial staff at the New Yorker, Playboy, Better Homes & Gardens, National Enquirer, and Harvard Business Review regarding publishing matters; cartoons used in Arno’s children’s book The Magic Fish; and New Yorker cover art drawn on illustration board. Pen and ink cartoons are signed by Arno on recto, stamped by Arno on verso, and have autograph manuscript pencil captions in the margins. Also includes circa 4,000 typed index cards detailing ideas for cartoons. Cards include a caption and an ink stamp with the name and address of the author who wrote the cartoon. Authors include: Harald Bakken, E. Kaczmarek, Alice Kutzin, and Byron J. Langenfeld.
