Epitome was a publishing company based in Los Angeles and Pasadena, California. Elwin Volk (1911-) was the editor and Dennis McCalib was the designer.
Elwin Volk (1911-) was an American lawyer, author, poet, and editor.
Dennis McCalib was an American artist and author.
Summary
Portfolio created by Elwin Volk and Dennis McCalib, housing 10 items featuring artwork and text exploring ecstasy and altered states of consciousness, 1972. The portfolio cover is made from a single folded sheet of paper, with text in ink and artwork in watercolor. The items inside the portfolio consist of folded paper sheets of various sizes with poems and other texts in pen and ink or photocopy typescript, and art executed in watercolor. Some texts are on smaller sheets affixed to larger sheets. Also includes one typescript photocopy of a letter by Volk describing the contents of the portfolio, and one audiocassette, labeled: "Epitomes 1972 / Quaere: Library of Congress". Accompanied by a typescript letter from Volk to Yale University Library, offering the portfolio as a gift.
