Summary
"El Hadj est un étudiant sénégalais à Paris. Son titre de séjour étant arrivé à son terme, il se trouve confronté à un dilemme: soit retourner au Sénégal, soit demeurer clandestinement en France. Pris dans des tourbillons contradictoires, entre sa volonté de rentrer travailler pour son pays, et celle de rester finalement là où il se sent bien, il est tourmenté par ses convictions autant que par ses désirs non assumés. Le souvenir de l'homme qu il était, l'image de l'homme qu'il espérait incarner et le constat de l'homme qu'il se sent devenir"--Container.
El-Hadi Diop, a young Senegalese man studying in Paris, finds that his residency permit runs out just six days prior to his exams. Jailed and then threatened with early deportation, he refuses to marry his girlfriend merely for expediency's sake and instead arranges to purchase forged immigration documents, taking a job with a construction crew in order to earn the money to pay for them. However, it isn't long before El-Hadj's plans hit a very serious snag.
