"For once, the sky is gray over Fontaine-de-Vaucluse today. In his blue anorak, Christian Löffler overlooks the picturesque village, perched on a huge rocky outcrop in the middle of the Luberon, in the South of France. He has installed his machines and synthesizers on the ruins of the Castle of the Cavaillon Bishops dating from the 13th century: a breathtaking site found by the Cercle team to host the live performance of the German producer. With A Forest (2012), a melancholy and contemplative debut album with a deep house orientation, Christian Löffler has established himself among the musicians who matter. In the tradition of his compatriots Pantha Du Prince or Lawrence, he has liberated himself from the codes of club music to give free rein to his imagination, expanding his ideas year after year. He confides in an interview (at the end of the video) that he took almost six years to finalize and refine this set! A powerful hour and a quarter with accents of minimalist techno, organic and melodious, where the sound of the instruments, carried by the drum machine, hits us in the guts. Carillons, marimba, mandolin, hang, or violin, enhanced by a few voices, are at the service of the Greifswald native's compositions, linking with finesse a selection of tracks from his first three albums and a personal remix of Good Guy Mikesh. The fantastic Provençal panorama, filmed with a drone, then becomes a backdrop for Löffler, who makes all his melancholy resound from the top of the cliffs. And it is simply majestic.
