Summary
"Heir to Fela Kuti, Antibalas represents a daring version of Afrobeat. Spotted at the beginning of the third millennium by the pioneers of Ninja Tune, the New York gang has never ceased to develop this musical register, whether under the leadership of choreographer Bill T. Jones, or through various albums. Signed in 2012 by those close to Daptone (Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley...), the group has since released three substantial opuses, including the amazing "Where The Gods Are In Peace" and its long retro-futuristic tracks. Recorded in the backyard of the aforementioned label in Brooklyn, the collective recycles powerful Nigerian repertoire: a jazz-funk-highlife mix perceptible when listening to the vituperative ""Dirty Money"" and ""The Rat Catcher."" Punctuated by the band's own words, this short set illustrates above all the leadership of Antibalas in the current and yet very rich Afrobeat galaxy (The Smith Brothers, Roforofo Jazz or even Kokoroko...) An ascendancy confirmed by ""Sáré Kon Kon,"" a final track full of incantatory choirs and insane brass. Vincent Caffiaux".
