"Violinist Lucien Durosoir (1878-1955), had an established career as a concert violinist before the First World War. As stretcher bearer in the trenches, he wrote to his mother nearly every day, describing the horrors of war, the small joys, and the friends he made. He had the good luck to attract the notice of a commanding officer who was interested in music, and was able to form a chamber ensemble with other soldier.
