Summary
Manuscript diary primarily recording details of a visit to London in 1881, by William Stringer. Stringer travels from Staffordshire, meeting an Edward (possibly his brother) at Euston station. While in London, Stringer visits the British Museum, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, the Tower, the South Kensington Museum (V&A), the Royal Albert Dock, Woolwich Arsenal, and many other popular destinations. Stringer includes several drawings, in black ink, depicting a ship at the Royal Albert Dock, Blackfriar's Bridge, and a canon at Woolwich Arsenal.
The London diary is bookended by several shorter texts, including: an account of a great storm, copied from the Staffordshire Advertiser, June 29, 1872, and an entry from Parish Magazine, by Cecil James Littleton, November 1885.
Includes graphite drawings, laid in, perhaps by varying hands. Some depict Penkridge. Others are sketches of animals, or humorous scenes.
