Summary
This collection consists of the proceedings of the Commissioners of Gatesville, North Carolina (1833), and a register of slaves working in the Great Dismal Swamp spanning North Carolina and Virginia (1847-1861). The Great Dismal Swamp, on the border between North Carolina and Virginia, offered a refuge to runaway slaves and a number of maroon communities were established there.
