Summary
The journal is the manuscript version of the account published in 1817 by John Murray as Narrative of a Residence in Belgium during the Campaign of 1815; and of a Visit to the field of Waterloo. It claims to be a rare eye-witness account of the battle and of the events surrounding it, by an Englishwoman who was present by chance. The manuscript preserves the names abbreviated or omitted in the printed version. In addition to the discussion of Waterloo, the Narrative comments on life and customs in Belgium.
