"At the National Steering Committee Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 12-15, 1974, Vietnam Veterans Against the War/Winter Soldier Organization, unanimously voted to give the struggles of the Leavenworth Brothers 'National Endorsement.' 'National Endorsement' is a project that VVAW/WSO encourages and supports; the Kansas City Chapter has played a leading role in the formation and work of the Committee. Other VVAW/WSO Chapters have taken part in actions and done educational work. The seven Leavenworth Brothers indicted are all members of VVAW/WSO"--Page 4, Vol. 1, no. 5 (Apr. 29, 1974)
Summary
Leavenworth Brothers Offense/Defense Committee, created by Randy Barnes and Kansas City VVAW, raised money for the legal defense of several prisoners, many of them veterans, on trial for their role in a prison riot. This newsletter exposes the prison conditions that led to the riot.
