Binding: Light brown leather over paper pasteboards, inlaid gold-stamped centerpiece with pendants and cornerpieces, blind-tooled, gold-painted frames. Black leather doublures with gold-painted centerpieces, pendants, and frames.
Contemporary foliation begins on the verso before the text opening, with modern f. 10a numbered 1, f. 11a numbered 2, and so on.
In Ottoman Turkish, with some Arabic notes.
Provenance
Ownership inscriptions of ‘Abdülbāḳī the judge of Baghdad (عبد الباقي) and es-Seyyid Zeynülābidīn (السيد زين العابدين), and a lengthy vakıf (endowment) statement of el-Ḥācc es-Seyyid Aḥmed Ḥilmī (الحاج السيد احمد حملي ) from Niğde, with several other names, dated H. 17 Safer 1292/25 March 1875 (f. 10a). Summary
Manuscript, on paper, of Fetāvā-yı Yaḥyā Efendi compiled by Muḥammed bin ʻAbdülḥalīm and containing a collection of fetvās (legal opinions) by the Ottoman şeyhülislam (chief jurist) Zekeriyāzāde Yaḥyā Efendi. Some marginal quotations from various legal sources in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish. Includes table of contents (ff. 2b-3b, 8b-9b); text begins on (f. 10b). The appendix includes contemporary Ottoman land laws (ff. 300a-301b), promulgated in H. 1018/1609-1610 AD; and the fetvās of Ebussuud Efendi presented to the Sultan Selim II (ff. 301b-304b).
