Summary
Description: Visit of Senator Ribicoff to London to call on Donald Maitland FCO, and the Secretary of State for Trade. Ribicoff in charge of the Senate subcommittee responsible for liaison with the Administration. Ribicoff because of his more liberal trade background is an important individual in congress on the American side directly concerned with the Trade Act negotiations. Congressman Don Edwards to visit London to enquire about UK bankruptcy procedures since he is reviewing US practices in the context of his congressional responsibilities. Senator McClure, the Republican Junior Senator for Idaho visiting the UK to discuss international energy problems and related economic policy. Senator Humphrey, accompanied by his son Hubert Humphrey Jr. called on the Chancellor in the Treasury. Chancellor stressed the danger of restrictive economic policy producing serious recession in the USA. Chancellor asked about the Trade Bill and the President's tax surcharge proposals. Report on a tour by Senator Henry Jackson and Senator Bennett Johnston, Members of the Senate Interior Committee on Energy Matters accompanied by Mr David Kay, Scottish Information Office, Edinburgh.
