Summary
Description: Economic measures briefed by Eberle to a group of Canadian Ministers and senior official in which the main themes emphasised were the US belief that inflation must be tackled now if it were not to do irreparable harm to Western economies, the importance which the US attaches to food supplies and the possibility that countries could use food supplies as a political weapon. Report on the President's conference on inflation in which he announced an Economic Policy Board, a White House Labour-Management Committee, Dr Albert Rees of Princeton appointed as director of the Council on Wage and Price Stability, the President's promise to put proposals to Congress to keep Federal expenditure in the Fiscal Year of 1975 at or below $300 billion, and a voluntary citizens programme to be mounted on ways to save energy and fight inflation. Some of the salient themes of the mini-summits include economic prospects, monetary policy, fiscal policy, wages and prices, organised labour, housing, agriculture, transport, consumer groups. Included is a statement by Arthur F. Burns Chairman, Board of governors of the Federal Reserve System before the Senate Budget Committee.
