The Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores (ENES), Unidad Morelia, of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), has the distinction of preserving since 2014 a large part of the personal archive of Alfredo Zalce, which has been named Fondo Alfredo Zalce (FAZ), derived from the collaboration agreements with the Fundación Alfredo Zalce. The objects and documents of the collection give a glimpse of the personal history of the artist and his family, or of the relationships with other characters of the medium; It also reveals his participation in the network of stories that were part of Mexico in the mid-twentieth century and his link with the world, as well as the daily life, landscapes and demands of the people, particularly the union and the indigenous. Thus, the personal archive deals between the ramifications and the signifiers that help to understand both the life and the environment of a subject. Recognizing the rhizomatic nature of these is the first step for both their organization and their study: therein lies the unique opportunity to rediscover objects, documents and relationships that will be of interest to all. The research that makes up this book talks about the complexity of archival work that, with some frequency, is not recognized, or is reduced to the status of auxiliary science; Therefore, experiences such as the one we share contribute to case studies in the field of archives, to the analysis of personal collections and to the interdisciplinary dialogue that is so necessary today for our science.
