Summary
After making a splash at the Met in high-flying coloratura roles early in her career, Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak has returned in recent seasons to give powerful performances in some of the repertory's most tragic dramas. In 2020, she starred as Violetta, the fallen heroine of Verdi's La Traviata, a role that presents inexhaustible vocal and dramatic possibilities. In this Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcast, Kurzak rises to the challenge, sharing the stage with tenor Dmyro Popov as Violetta's devoted yet overly idealistic lover, Alfredo, and baritone Quinn Kelsey as his unbending father, Germont. Maestro Karel Mark Chichon is on the podium, breathing new life into this timeless--and tuneful--score.
