Summary
Countersigned by Isreal Putnam, of Bunker Hill fame, on verso. co-signed by William Pitkin, Thomas Seymour (who was mayor of Hartford from 1774-1812), and Oliver Ellsworth (when this was signed he was a member of the Connecticut legislature and later U.S. Senator and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court), of the Pay-Table Committee in Connecticut. The committee was responsible for raising money for the colony during the Revolution. To the Treasurer of Connecticut, John Lawrence. Authorizes payment of 500 pounds to Colonel Putnam as paymaster of the First Company of the Third Regiment of troops being raised in the colony of Connecticut. Demands that the money be charged to the account of the colony of Connecticut. Verso has a document signed by Putnam dated 14 May 1775, stating he received the funds. Below docket is a note saying the payment was audited by E.P. - a similar document had the auditor named as E. Plummer - on 13 May 1776.
