Title
[Letter] London, Aug. 13, 1768 [to] Mr. [Richard] Bache, [Philadelphia] / B. Franklin.
Summary
Franklin writes to his son-in-law, explaining that his failure to answer Bache's previous letters stemmed from his unhappiness over Bache's marriage to his daughter Sarah (Sally) and his concern that Bache would be unable to support her, since he had few prospects and was greatly in debt. He wishes Bache well in his new business venture, and closes by saying that if Bache proves "a good husband & son, you will find in me an affectionate father." A postscript mentions that he has sent Sally a new watch and buckles.
