Lord Oxford's daughter sold his printed books to the bookseller Thomas Osborne, who engaged William Oldys, Samuel Johnson and Michael Maittaire to compile v. 1-4 of the present sale catalog. Vol. 5, which is only an enumeration of Osborne's unsold stock, has title: "Catalogus bibliothecæ Harleianæ: or, A catalogue of the remaining part of the library of the late Earl of Oxford ... Which will begin to be sold ... at T. Osborne's ... on the twenty second day of April, 1745 ..."
