Henry Miles Moore, born in Brockport, New York, was admitted to the bar in 1848, spent time in Louisiana, then traveled to Weston, Missouri, where he practiced law with O. Diefendorf and joined the editorial staff of the Weston Reporter.
He moved to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1854, was a delegate to the Topeka Constitutional Convention in 1855, became attorney general, and represented Leavenworth in the Territorial Legislature of 1857 and in the State Legislature in 1868. He was active in the Free State War, served as secretary of the Democratic State Central committee for 20 years, and was city attorney for several terms.
