Purchased from Robert K. Black in 1966 with the William Robertson Coe Western Americana Fund.

Andrew Woods's diary records his 1850 overland journey from Iowa to California. He describes the route and the scenery as well as noting gravesites along the trail. He also records his 1851 voyage home by steamer via Panama and the Mississippi River. The journal is accompanied by a photocopy of a 1900 newspaper article about Woods's trip to the California gold mines.
