Johannes Keye (-1719), lawyer in Brandenburg, Germany, and respondent, Dissertatio de aequilibrio observando in judicandis et decidendis factis humanis (Universität Wittenberg, 1691).
Summary
Manuscript quotations copied by Johannes Keye in Gothic script, some signed and dated 1678-1679. Quotations are illuminated in red, blue, green, and black ink, and gold paint, with decorated initials and borders, some incorporating Renaissance motifs, interlacing, or other illustrative devices. Texts are Protestant prayers, Bible quotations, patristic or theological extracts, and transcriptions from sepulchral monuments, some referring to deaths in Brandenburg, Germany, 1500s-1600s. Also present are manuscript maps of ancient Rome and Jerusalem, with lists of buildings and other sites.
