Summary
Autograph manuscript log book, written in several hands. Commanded by James McPherson, 1826-1827, the Funchal sailed between London,Gibraltar, and Almeria and Madeira, Spain, bringing wines and other cargo to London. James Weddell became ship master in October, 1827, while the Funchal was laying in port in London; he was succeeded by James Hart, and the Funchal departed for Valparaiso, Chile, in February, 1828. After arriving at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in April, and Valparaiso, Chile, in May, the Funchal continued to Lima and Callao, Peru, in September; to San Francisco and Monterey, California, loading a cargo of tallow and hides in Monterey, in December; and to Santa Barbara and San Pedro, also loading tallow and hides, and Catalina Island, California, January-March, 1829. Log entries are followed by a list of ship stores and brief notes. Notes of a former owner are laid in.
