Volume containing letterpress copies of letters sent by the Office of the Chief Commissary of Subsistence, Department of the Columbia, United States Army. Letters are written in autograph manuscript and are signed by Captain Samuel A. Foster, Jul-Nov, 1870, and Captain William H. Bell, Nov, 1870-Apr, 1871. Letters concern provision of food for posts in the Department of the Columbia, including communications with forts and camps and reports of accounts, inspections, and contracts made with suppliers.
