Summary
This CD-ROM set contains seismic reflection data collected along the Mississippi River in 1981. A small boat traveled upstream along the Mississippi from Osceola, Arkansas to Wyckliffe, Kentucky, a distance of about 240 km. This section of the Mississipi River traverses the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ), an area that experienced three major earthquakes in 1811-1812, and that continues to be active today. This study, part of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program, was undertaken to detect subsurface structure in and adjacent to mapped seismicity in the NMSZ.
